National Mall

Perhaps the greatest outdoor space in the country, this spectacular two-mile stretch of DC features numerous war memorials and museums. Located between the U.S. Capitol Building, the Lincoln Memorial and the White House, the National Mall is the site of presidential inaugurations, holiday celebrations, tours and special events throughout the year. It's located within walking distance to our West End hotel, and is also well connected via public transportation.

History

The idea for the National Mall was created in 1791 in order to give the city an outdoor space for gardens and trees, set around the Washington Monument. This "grand avenue" grew and grew, finally earning a spot on the National Registrar of Historic Places in 1966.

This top tourist destination is well connected via public transportation and features subway and bus stops in numerous locations. The Mall is longer than you might think - two miles from end to end - so take advantage of public transportation and save your feet!
